In 1991, the connecticut General Assembly passed legislation encouraging communities to establish a means to coordinate services provided to children and families. East Hartford responded by forming ChildPlan, and organization consisting of a variety of municipal and community leaders who were interested in assessing and providing for the needs of its community. Some of the early initiatives accomplished were the development of School-based Health Centers, an Youth Advisory board, Family Resource Centers, and a Teen Center.
One of the few communities within this State to continue with its commitment, East Hearford was in a prime position to capitalize on a new opportunity offered by the Graustein Memorial Gund to apply for a "Discovery" grant being made available to proprity school districts. The grants are gesred to the exploration of prospects for "improving the lives and educational outcomes of young children."
East Hartford ChildPlan, Inc. Received its 501 c (3) nonprofit status in 2003 and is now poised to act as a resource to the community in providing a local voice in program planning and as a fiduciarey for the application for and allocation of grants. |
